Cosmetic Treatments to Improve Selfies on the Rise

Thu, 03/22/2018

People choose to undergo plastic surgery for a variety of reasons. For some, it's to improve the appearance of a particular region of their body. Others would like to turn back the clock and reverse the signs of aging. Some people simply want to feel better about their overall appearance and seek out cosmetic procedures for the boost in self-confidence that is often associated with these treatments.

nonsurgical cosmetic treatments to look good in selfiesApparently, there is a new reason why many people are seeking cosmetic treatments -- a desire to look better in selfies. The improvement of cell phone cameras in recent years has caused the selfie to surge in popularity, and many people are becoming more obsessed with their appearance as a result.

While seeking out ideal lighting and using the right filter was the first layer in taking the perfect selfie, many people are starting to go much farther to improve the way they look in these pictures. According to a study by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 55% of plastic surgeons have reported working with patients in 2017 who expressed a desire to look better in selfies.

While some of these patients are opting for full facelifts for dramatic facial rejuvenation results, this trend has primarily led to a rise in the popularity of minimally invasive, nonsurgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers.

Perfect Selfies and the Rise of "Preventive BOTOX"

While you may expect that the majority of patients seeking treatments to improve their appearance in selfies would be in their 40s and 50s, this actually isn't the case. According to the study mentioned above, many plastic surgeons have reported a rise in younger patients (typically in their 20s and 30s) seeking "preventive BOTOX" treatments. Often, these patients have mentioned "looking better in selfies" as the reason for their desired cosmetic procedure.

This approach involves using BOTOX® Cosmetic at a younger age in order to limit the severity of wrinkles that may develop later in life. Many of these patients begin using BOTOX® Cosmetic as soon as they notice the earliest signs of facial aging, while fine lines and wrinkles are still in their beginning stages. Opting for these preventive treatments can potentially save you a significant amount of time and money down the road by limiting the development of deep wrinkles and facial folds.

Natural Looking Results are Important

The study also found that receiving natural looking results was the primary goal for 33% of patients. This represents a significant increase compared to several years ago. Apparently, looking good in selfies isn't enough. Most people also don't want it to look like they've worked hard to achieve this youthful, vibrant appearance.

Solutions to Help You Look Great in Selfies

Dr. Kleto offers a wide range of cosmetic procedures to restore a youthful appearance and help you look great in selfies. If you exhibit extensive signs of facial aging, you may want to consider a traditional facelift. However, in most instances, you may be able to achieve your desired results from one of these minimally invasive treatments:

What Areas Can Be Treated with Liposuction?

Wed, 02/28/2018

When thinking about liposuction, most people picture a smaller waist and abdominal area. However, liposuction can be used on many more areas of the body. If you have stubborn fat deposits that you want to get rid of, there’s a good chance that liposuction can help no matter where on the body these fat deposits are.

The only way to know for sure if you are a good liposuction candidate is to call Dr. Dean Kleto at 865-366-4755 to schedule a consultation. He will examine you, listen to your What can liposuction do for you?goals, and let you know if liposuction is a viable option to reduce your excess fat.

Common and Less Common Areas for Liposuction

The most common areas that people have liposuction on are:

·      Upper and lower abdomen

·      Flanks

·      Love handles/muffin top

These areas are often the hardest to get into shape using diet and exercise alone. Genetic predisposition to fat storage in certain areas as well as a slower metabolism due to age combine to create a body shape you may not be happy with. Liposuction can help you restore your body shape, but it’s important to continue a healthy diet and regular exercise in order to maintain your results.

Less common but still popular areas for liposuction include:

·      Chin

·      Arms

·      “Bra bulge”

·      Back

·      Thighs

·      Male breasts (gynecomastia)

Liposuction is a safe and effective way to get rid of a stubborn double chin, and it can also be used to reduce flab on the upper arms. Many women suffer from what is colloquially known as a “bra bulge” – where fat bulges out above and below the bra band when it’s fastened. This bulge can also be treated effectively with liposuction.

Many women also start to accumulate fat in the inner and outer thighs as they age. Liposuction can be a great choice to slim the thighs, and can also provide benefits such as better-fitting jeans and less chafing.

If you are a man with gynecomastia, which is a condition in which males develop female-like breasts, liposuction may help to reduce your breasts and achieve a more masculine chest appearance.

Is Liposuction Right For You?

Liposuction can provide dramatic results for the right candidate. It’s important to understand its limitations, though. Liposuction is only for reducing small areas of unwanted fat. It cannot be used for:

·      Weight loss

·      Sagging skin

·      Wrinkles

·      Stretch marks

·      Loose abdominal muscles

The ideal candidate for liposuction is at or near a healthy, stable weight that they can maintain. In addition, they have good skin quality and intact abdominal muscles that have not separated. Pregnancy often results in loose abdominal muscles and sagging skin, which is why tummy tuck surgery rather than liposuction tends to be the best choice for post-pregnancy women.

In some cases, it is possible to combine liposuction with another surgery such as a body lift in order to achieve more comprehensive results. Dr. Kleto will advise you of which treatments will best help you reach your goals during your consultation.

When should I Consider a Breast Lift?

Wed, 11/29/2017

As you age, your body inevitably undergoes certain changes. One of the areas that is commonly impacted among women is their breasts. Due to aging, pregnancy and breastfeeding, fluctuations in weight, or the forces of gravity, you may begin to experience sagging issues. Fortunately, a breast lift may be a great way to correct these problems.

A breast lift is a procedure performed to restore a perkier, more youthful breast appearance. Dr. Kleto will remove excess skin, reshape the breast mound, reposition the nipple and tighten remaining skin in order to help you achieve your desired appearance.

When is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Knoxville breast liftIf you experience moderate to severe sagging in your breasts, you will most likely benefit from a breast lift. Other criteria that may indicate you’re a good breast lift candidate include:

  • You’re in good overall health
  • You have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure
  • Your breasts have lost some firmness
  • Your nipples point downward and have fallen below the breast crease
  • You would like to reduce the size of very large areolas

This procedure is commonly performed on women who’ve experienced changes to their breasts after having children, and a breast lift is commonly included in a mommy makeover. Breast lifts can also help address significant changes to your breast appearance after losing a significant amount of weight. In these situations, you should be able to maintain your current weight for an extended period of time prior to undergoing a breast lift.

Should I Choose Breast Augmentation or a Breast Lift?

It’s important to understand the difference between breast augmentation and a breast lift in order to determine which procedure will more effectively address your goals. Breast augmentation is performed to improve the size and shape of your breasts. If you would like to achieve a larger breast size, correct breast asymmetry or restore lost breast volume, then you should consider breast augmentation.

However, breast augmentation doesn’t effectively address sagging issues, particularly when they are moderate or severe in nature. If you’re happy with your current breast size and simply want to correct sagging to restore a more youthful appearance, then you should consider a breast lift.

In some instances, these two procedures can be performed together in order to achieve enhanced results. If you experience significant sagging but would also like to increase the size of your breasts, then Dr. Kleto may recommend a breast augmentation with a lift. This combination of procedures can help you achieve your preferred breast size and shape while simultaneously providing the youthful look you desire.
