4 Reasons to Get a Breast Reduction

Tue, 06/04/2019

Woman after breast reductionOverly large breasts can be physically painful, inconvenient, and embarrassing. Many women who would like smaller breasts opt for breast reduction surgery to vastly improve their quality of life, and the procedure is exploding in popularity. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery estimates the number of procedures has increased by 157 percent since 1997.

Dr. Dean Kleto has the attention to detail, artistic eye, and refined surgical skills to help make your breast reduction dreams into reality. His empathetic and compassionate manner will make your treatment as comfortable as possible. He understands the numerous reasons people opt for breast reduction and wants to help you achieve the results you deserve.

You Deal With Physical Pain Because of Your Large Breasts

Large breasts can cause physical discomfort in many ways:

·         Back pain

·         Shoulder pain

·         Neck pain

·         Bra straps digging into your skin

·         Interference with your ability to exercise

·         Rash or skin irritation under the breasts

Your Large Breasts are Impacting Your Self-Esteem

It's not uncommon for women to feel self-conscious about their breasts. Bigger breasts can magnify this insecurity. Your breasts may draw unwanted attention or attract inappropriate comments.

Large breasts may also make it difficult to fit into some clothing, bras, and swimsuits. A breast reduction could help you wear form-fitting clothes more comfortably and increase your confidence when wearing lingerie and bikinis.

Additionally, you could combine your breast reduction with a breast lift to further improve the appearance of your breasts. A breast lift could lessen any drooping or sagging, reposition your areolas, and give your breasts a perkier shape.

You've Just Finished Breastfeeding

Pregnancy and motherhood can be the most rewarding experiences of your life, but they can also cause changes to your body that diet and exercise may not be able to correct. Your breasts may become enlarged, heavier, and less firm.

As your breasts increase in size during pregnancy, the ligaments supporting them may stretch. If this happens, it can be hard for your breasts to regain their pre-pregnancy shape and size. A breast reduction combined with a lift could do wonders for restoring your previous appearance.

You Have Realistic Expectations for the Outcome of the Procedure

It's important to go into your breast reduction with an open mind. You may have a specific picture of how you think your breasts should look. While Dr. Kleto will do his best to achieve the outcome you desire, sometimes factors such as your age, weight, and body type determine the level of reduction you're able to have.

It's also vital to remember that plastic surgeons measure breast size using cubic centimeters, not cup size. For this reason, Dr. Kleto won't be able to change your breasts to a specific bra size. Instead, during your consultation, he will talk to you about your aesthetic goals and do his best to fulfill those.

Breast Implants for Petite Women: What’s Best?

Tue, 04/16/2019

While petite women can certainly be good candidates for breast augmentation, it’s important they carefully consider their breast implant options. A smaller frame means that your implant size, profile and shape can all affect your ability to achieve natural, proportionate results.

Regardless of their stature, all of Dr. Kleto’s patients have slightly different body compositions. That’s why he works with each patient to choose the implant options that work best for them. To schedule a breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Kleto, call 877-907-0747.

Sizing Your Breast Implants

Many women pursue breast augmentation to make their breasts appear larger and fuller, but a bigger bust isn’t always better. This is especially true for petite women who could feel uncomfortable with breast implants that are too large for their body.

Breast augmentation is ultimately about enhancing your curves and natural form. The same implant size won’t look the same on every patient. To balance your desired cup size with other aesthetic components, Dr. Kleto will consider:

  • Your body type
  • Your weight, height and chest dimensions
  • Your skin elasticity
  • How much natural breast tissue you have
  • Your lifestyle and activity levels

With all of this information, you and Dr. Kleto will work to create the best implant size for your body and surgical goals.

Your Implant Profile

Implant size is not the only factor that will affect your final results. You should also determine what implant profile you would like. The profile refers to how far your breasts will project out from your chest.

There are three profile options:

Infographic About High Profile Breast Implants

  • Low profile: These sit low on the chest and have a flatter appearance than other implants. They work well for women with wide chests.
  • Moderate profile: These provide more projection than low-profile implants and tend to yield the most natural-looking results. They work well for women with small or narrow chests.
  • High profile: These provide the highest level of projection, which may look unnatural on certain patients. They work well for petite women with a narrow chest wall.

Dr. Kleto will measure the width of your chest and take into account your implant size to help you determine the right profile.

Your Implant Shape

You will also need to pick an implant shape that pairs well with your chosen implant size and profile.

  • Round breast implants make the top of your breasts look fuller, meaning more cleavage and a voluptuous, lifted appearance. They’re a good option for patients hoping to correct breast sagging or drooping.
  • Teardrop implants provide a more natural, subtle look. While you can still achieve the appearance of a fuller chest with teardrop implants, the fullness is concentrated at the bottom rather than the top of your breasts.

When deciding between these two options, ask yourself whether natural results or a more noticeable bust is your main goal.

Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

During your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Kleto will help you understand how each implant option will affect your new look. He will guide you through the process of selecting the size, profile and shape that’s best for your physical makeup as well as your cosmetic goals.

Using advanced 3D imaging, Dr. Kleto will capture an image of your body that lets you see how your breast implants will look against your figure. With this technology, you can view up to six implant options side by side and make an educated choice about what’s right for you.

Correcting Your Tubular Breasts With Breast Augmentation

Thu, 03/14/2019

Tubular or tuberous breasts are a congenital abnormality caused by a narrow breast base that constricts breast tissue development during puberty. Instead of growing into a round, natural breast shape, tubular breasts grow in a more elongated, oval shape. Breast augmentation is a permanent solution to tubular breasts that reshapes and resizes your chest for a more feminine look.

Symptoms of Tubular Breasts

Tubular breasts are a benign condition that can affect one or both of your breasts. Tubular breasts are characterized by their appearance, which can include:Woman Hiding Her Tubular Breasts With Her Hands

  • Abnormally small or narrow breasts
  • Breasts that are oval, pointed or triangular in shape
  • Excessively droopy or elongated breasts
  • A large gap between breasts
  • Prominent, puffy nipples or areolas
  • Tight breast skin beneath the nipples
  • Nipples that point inward or downward
  • Significantly asymmetrical breasts

The condition can range from mild to severe depending on how your symptoms manifest.

Breast Augmentation for Tubular Breasts

Many women attempt to hide tubular breasts underneath excessive bra padding or bra inserts. Tubular breast augmentation can give you the rounder, fuller and shapelier breasts you desire.

Tubular breast augmentation can be performed as a single procedure or in a two-step process. The severity of your symptoms will determine what treatment method Dr. Kleto uses.

As a single procedure, Dr. Kleto will make targeted incisions to release your constricted breast tissue and round out the base of your breasts. He will then insert your implant and close up the surgical site.

If you have breasts that are significantly different from one another, Dr. Kleto may recommend a two-step approach. After he releases your constricted breast tissue, he will then insert a tissue expander to prepare your breasts for implants.

During the second procedure, Dr. Kleto will remove the tissue expander and replace it with your permanent implants. If your nipples or areolas have been affected by your tubular breasts, you may choose to have additional procedures to correct their appearance performed at this time.

Since tubular breasts can cause excessive drooping, Dr. Kleto may recommend tubular breast augmentation with a breast lift in some cases.

Candidates for Breast Augmentation

While tubular breasts are not harmful to your health, they can affect your confidence and self-esteem. If you feel self-conscious in your clothes or in front of a significant other, breast augmentation can help you feel sexy and beautiful once more.

Breast augmentation is not recommended for everyone, but you’re likely a good candidate if you have tubular breasts and meet the following criteria:

  • You’re at least 18 years of age (for saline breast implants) or 22 years of age (for silicone breast implants)
  • Your breasts are fully developed
  • You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You’re in good overall health and at a stable weight
  • You do not smoke
  • You do not have any infections, illnesses or pre-cancerous symptoms

During your initial consultation, Dr. Kleto will ask about your medical history to determine if breast augmentation can help treat your tubular breasts.

How Common Is Gynecomastia?

Thu, 03/07/2019

Gynecomastia is an embarrassing medical condition that results in the appearance of male breasts. If you’re living with gynecomastia, know that you’re not alone. A surprising number of men have — and make efforts to hide — gynecomastia.

Man With Gynecomastia Holding His Chest

Prevalence of Gynecomastia

All males are born with a small amount of breast tissue; an amount far less than females have. Gynecomastia occurs when this breast tissue swells and grows.

Hormonal changes are often at the root of the condition, which is why half of all teenage boys have gynecomastia. However, it can afflict males of any age. Nearly half of all males will experience gynecomastia at some point in their lives, and approximately two-thirds of men over age 50 have swollen breast tissue.

Causes of Male Breasts

We’re all born with a certain level of sex hormones in our bodies. The female hormone estrogen is responsible for the production of breast tissue, while the male hormone testosterone stops breast tissue from growing. An imbalance of estrogen or testosterone can lead to the appearance of male breasts.

While puberty and aging are often the cause of hormonal imbalances, there are a number of other factors that can affect your estrogen and testosterone levels. These include:

  • Testicular injury or tumor
  • Tumors or cancer in the adrenal or pituitary glands
  • Hyperthyroidism and other thyroid problems
  • Obesity and excessive weight gain
  • Certain medications for heart disease, cancer, depression and ulcers
  • Alcoholism and recreational drugs, including anabolic steroids, marijuana and heroin
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Klinefelter syndrome

Breast cancer, while it can affect males, is not the same as gynecomastia. If you have enlarged breasts or lumps on your chest, it’s important that you rule out breast cancer before seeking cosmetic solutions.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Gynecomastia is a benign condition, but the source of the condition may not be. While a quarter of gynecomastia has no known cause, you should always seek medical treatment to determine if you have any underlying problems that could affect your health and well-being.

When caused by a period of hormonal change, gynecomastia may go away on its own. However, if your gynecomastia persists a year or more, plastic surgeon Dr. Dean Kletomay be able to restore your masculine chest.

The following signs also indicate that it’s time to visit Dr. Kleto for a consultation:

  • You feel ashamed or embarrassed by your chest
  • You hide your chest under baggy clothing
  • You avoid being shirtless
  • You have back pain or chest pain brought on by your gynecomastia

Dr. Kleto will perform male breast reductionsurgery to remove excess fatty and glandular tissues from your chest. This includes using liposuction to shape and contour your chest.

In cases where tissue buildup is more severe, surgical excision may be needed. Surgical excision can also treat stretched, sagging skin around your breasts.

While losing weight may reduce the appearance of your breasts, it cannot remove the excess tissue that’s at the root of your condition. Male breast reduction surgery is the most effective treatment for gynecomastia.

What Type of Tummy Tuck Do I Need?

Wed, 02/20/2019

If you have loose, sagging skin in your abdominal area, a tummy tuck can help you get a tighter, more toned midsection. There are three main approaches to the tummy tuck procedure: full, extended and mini. Learn about these different tummy tuck procedures and which one would be best for your body and treatment goals.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is designed to address your entire abdomen, both above and below the navel. It’s the most popular type of tummy tuck and an ideal option if you want to:Woman's Stomach After Tummy Tuck

  • Repair damaged abdominal wall muscles after pregnancy
  • Tighten the entire abdominal region following significant weight loss
  • Have a smoother, firmer midsection overall

During your full tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Kleto will make one incision from hip to hip and a second around your belly button. This allows him to reach your entire abdomen and reposition your belly button for more natural-looking results. Many of our patients combine a traditional tummy tuck with liposuction for the added benefit of fat reduction.

Extended Tummy Tuck

Like a fully tummy tuck, an extended tummy tuck addresses your entire abdominal region. In addition, it targets your flanks, hips and lower back. You may be a good candidate for an extended tummy tuck if you have drooping skin in your stomach, as well as one or more of the following:

  • Prominent love handles
  • Weak lower back muscles
  • Folds of skin and excess fat in your flanks, upper hips and lower back

Since an extended tummy tuck tightens areas beyond your stomach, the surgical incision will extend to the back of your hips. While this does mean a longer incision, it also produces more dramatic results. Dr. Kleto will ensure your incision is made low enough that scarring will not be visible in swimsuits and low-rise pants.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is designed for patients who are only looking to address falling or bulging skin below the belly button. If you’re looking to further contour your midsection to your ideal aesthetic, a mini tummy tuck can help you remove a small amount of extra skin for beautiful results.

Unlike a standard tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck requires a much smaller incision. For this reason, it’s often referred to as a scarless tummy tuck. Since a mini tummy tuck is less invasive than other techniques, it also has a faster recovery period.

Choosing a Tummy Tuck for Your Body

There are many factors to think about before choosing a tummy tuck procedure. In addition to having a full understanding of your cosmetic goals, you should consider the following:

  • Your physical health: While you need to be in good general health before any type of surgery, full and extended tummy tucks tend to involve a more extensive surgical procedure and recovery, making these options better suited to individuals in excellent health. During your initial consultation, Dr. Kleto will ask questions about your medical history to determine what type of tummy tuck is appropriate for you.
  • Your lifestyle: Since full and extended tummy tucks are more comprehensive procedures, they require a longer rest period before exercise and strenuous activities can be resumed. Regardless of what type of tummy tuck you choose, it’s important that you adhere to all of Dr. Kleto’s post-operative instructions so you can heal properly and enjoy your new figure.
  • Your budget: A mini tummy tuck tends to be less expensive than a full or extended tummy tuck, but you shouldn’t just pick the cheapest procedure. We have several financing options to make paying for your surgery easier.

Dr. Kleto can help you balance these factors with what’s best for your body and health.
