BOTOX® and Pregnancy

So far, no official studies have been performed examining BOTOX® Cosmetic use in pregnant women, but BOTOX® is believed to have little to no impact on a developing fetus. There have been no reports of birth defects secondary to BOTOX®, and large doses of BOTOX® given to pregnant rats and mice have not resulted in any defects.

Doctors believe that the small amount of BOTOX® injected in for cosmetic purposes in the face is not likely to be significantly absorbed by the rest of your system.  Research shows that when BOTOX® is injected into the facial tissue, it does not migrate very far or circulate throughout the rest of your body; it remains in the local area.

However, if you are pregnant, it is best to wait until after you are finished breastfeeding before getting BOTOX® injections. Until more conclusive studies are performed, our experienced Knoxville BOTOX® team will not treat a patient who is currently pregnant.

If you have further questions about BOTOX® Cosmetic, please contact Dean Kleto, M.D. today or call (888) 431-4200 to schedule an initial consultation. We serve patients throughout Knoxville, Sevierville, and Knox County, Tennessee.
