Identifying Breast Augmentation Complications
A complication occurring in fewer than three percent of all breast augmentation patients is infection. Signs of infection include fever, redness, swelling, and general discomfort around the surgical area. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact Dr. Kleto immediately. When addressed early on, infection can often be effectively treated with an antibiotic prescription.
Other breast augmentation complications and their signs include:
- Capsular contracture – Indicated by a hardening of the breast or implant distortion and pain
- Asymmetry – Noticeable by one implant being higher, more pronounced, or further to one side than the other
- Calcification – More common with older implants, calcification can be detected through the appearance of a scar capsule around the incision
- Deflation – Occurring in less than five percent of patients, deflation will result in a loss of volume
