What Type of Rhinoplasty Do I Need?

Rhinoplasty is customized to meet the unique needs of every patient. The type of rhinoplasty that is right for you will depend on a variety of factors, all of which Dr. Kleto will discuss during your initial consultation at our Knoxville plastic surgery office. When rhinoplasty is performed with skill, experience, and a keen aesthetic eye, it can help you achieve balance and symmetry between your facial features.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty:

  • Open rhinoplasty – A small incision is made in the “bridge” between your nostrils at the bottom of your nose, called the columella. This approach helps Dr. Kleto see the anatomy of your nose in an unobstructed way, allowing for a high level of precision when making complex alterations.
  • Closed rhinoplasty – All incisions are made inside of the nostrils, leaving no visible scar. If you only want to remove a hump, or if the majority of your alterations will be made on the upper portion of your nose, than a closed approach to rhinoplasty is usually preferable.

After discussing your cosmetic goals and carefully examining the shape, structure, and appearance of your nose, Dr. Kleto will explain which type of rhinoplasty would help you achieve the best results.
