When to Replace Breast Implants

Breast implants do not have a set expiration date. As long as your implants have not ruptured and you are still happy with their appearance, you can leave your implants alone and not worry about replacing them. Generally speaking, most breast implants last anywhere from 10 to 15 years before problems arise that require replacement; however, some patients are able keep their implants intact for a lifetime without issues.

Some of the specific problems that can make breast implant replacement necessary include:

  • Rupture
  • Capsular contracture
  • Size change

Many women decide to replace their breast implants voluntarily because they are not satisfied with the way they look. Either they want to go a size larger, or they are experiencing aesthetic problems like rippling and want to improve the look and feel of their implants. Additionally, some women had their breast augmentation decades ago and want to take advantage of the latest implant materials and techniques.

Our experienced Knoxville breast surgeon Dr. Dean Kleto regularly performs revision breast augmentation to help patients who are experiencing problems with their breast implants, or are simply unhappy with the work done by another surgeon.

If you have further questions about breast augmentation, please contact Dean Kleto, M.D. today or call (888) 431-4200 to schedule an initial consultation with our experienced Knoxville breast augmentation surgeon. We serve patients throughout Knoxville, Sevierville, and Knox County, Tennessee.
