Abdominoplasty Candidacy

Serving Knoxville, Sevierville, Knox County & Nearby Areas of Tennessee

An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is often an excellent option for our Knoxville-area patients who are looking to remove sagging skin from the abdominal area. Dr. Dean Kleto can perform an abdominoplasty and give you a tighter, firmer abdomen.

You likely have a lot of abdominoplasty questions, and  Knoxville, Tennessee plastic surgeon Dr. Dean Kleto will be happy to answer all of them at your consultation and in the preparation stage. However, it’s important to understand that not all patients are good candidates for an abdominoplasty. There are certain factors that make you a good candidate for the procedure.

Your Health and Weight

Abdominoplasty may be right for you if you are dissatisfied with the appearance of a sagging apron of skin around your midriff area. Many people experience this excess skin as a result of:

  • Pregnancy
  • Weight loss
  • Aging

Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss procedure. Ideal candidates for the procedure are at or near their ideal body weight. If you are near your ideal body weight but find yourself dissatisfied with the look of your midriff because of loose skin, an abdominoplasty may be right for you.

It’s also important that you be in good overall health. If you have no significant health problems and are not predisposed to infection or sickness, the risks of any medical procedure, including abdominoplasty, decrease significantly.

Be honest with Dr. Kleto and his staff about your health situation and medical history. It’s important that they have all the relevant information when planning your course of treatment.

Pregnancy Plans

Before undergoing a tummy tuck, you should have a conversation with Dr. Kleto about any plans you might have for future children. An abdominoplasty will not prevent you from having children, and planning to have children is not necessarily a disqualifier.

However, we generally recommend that patients planning to have another child wait before undergoing an abdominoplasty. Pregnancy and child birth can affect the quality of your results and force you to undergo an abdominoplasty again.

Expectations of Results

It’s important to go in to your abdominoplasty with healthy, reasonable expectations. A tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure, nor will it transform the appearance of your entire body. Speak with Dr. Kleto about your expectations and be open and honest with him about what you’re looking for from your abdominoplasty.

If you’re a resident of the Knoxville area and you’re considering an abdominoplasty, please contact Dean Kleto, M.D. to arrange a consultation.
