The breast augmentation recovery process will be different for each patient. Dr. Kleto will follow up with you after your procedure to monitor your healing progress, and advise you when it is safe to return to exercise and other activities. Generally speaking, you should avoid most strenuous activity for the first two weeks after breast augmentation in order to keep swelling down, and reduce the risk of bleeding. Your incisions need time to heal without interference.

However, it’s important to start taking light walks during the first week after surgery. This helps keep your blood circulation at a healthy level, preventing blood clots. It also helps encourage faster healing.

After two weeks, most women can return to light cardio and lower body workouts. It’s important not to do too much too soon. Stick to low, non-impact machines such as an elliptical or a stationary bike. Your implants still need time to settle and heal properly. Any abrupt movements can affect the final position of your implants, or even cause bleeding. You should still avoid jogging and heavy lifting with your arms at this time.

After about six weeks, you should finally be free of restrictions. However, this doesn’t mean you should dive back into your normal exercise routine full-throttle. Slowly and gradually ramp up to your usual routine. Light dumbbell bench presses, kneeling pushups, and isometric exercises are all a good way to start, then you add more high-impact workouts over time. Always listen to your body; if anything hurts, stop and give yourself more time to recover.
