BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed to treat dynamic wrinkles - the fine lines that form due to repeated facial expressions. Crow's feet, nasolabial folds (smile lines), and brow lines are all examples of dynamic wrinkles. Over the years, your facial muscles become so conditioned to forming these expressions that they continue to pull on the skin even after you have stopped making them.

BOTOX® works by blocking the nerve impulses that tell your facial muscles to contract, allowing the muscles to finally relax, which in turns smoothes out dynamic wrinkles. BOTOX® is a simple, non-surgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles. The receptors on the muscles are blocked, making the muscle essentially paralyzed, but not damaged in any way.

The effects of a BOTOX® injection begin within 48 hours, and become progressively noticeable 5 to 10 days after treatment. Over the next 3 to 5 months, your facial muscles will gradually develop new receptors, which makes them capable of contracting again. You will need follow-up treatments to maintain your BOTOX® results over time.
