If you are out in the sun regularly without any protection, you run the risk of facing serious skin damage later in life. Although sunlight is important for good health, the ultraviolet (UV) rays that come with it can start harming your skin after only 15 minutes of exposure – even on cloudy or chilly days.

Wearing sunscreen can help you minimize skin damage and retain beautiful, healthy skin for many years to come. Below are some tips to keep in mind when you are out in the sun:

·         Reapply sunscreen to the most exposed body parts (arms, neck, face) every two hours. If you are in water, reapply more frequently.

·         Consider using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Many foundations can be found that are at least SPF 15.

·         Make sure the product(s) you are using guard against both UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays.

·         When you know you’ll be in direct sunlight for an extended period of time, use a hat with a brim that shades your face, neck, and ears.

·         Sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays and lower your risk of cataracts.

·         Lounging in the sun can be relaxing, but be sure you have a tree, umbrella, or other shaded area to retreat to from time to time.
