Questions about BOTOX® Cosmetic

Serving Knoxville, Sevierville, Knox County & Nearby Areas of Tennessee

What is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX is actually an acronym for botulinum toxin type A, which is a neurotoxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. When administered by board-certified Knoxville, Tennessee, plastic surgeon and BOTOX provider Dr. Dean Kleto, BOTOX can reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.

What imperfections can BOTOX treat?

BOTOX may be used to treat a number of cosmetic facial imperfections including:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Wrinkles or lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile and frown lines
  • Facial creases and laugh lines
  • Bunny lines on the sides of the nose

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX is injected via a tiny needle into the muscle below the affected area. BOTOX inhibits the contraction of the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles by temporarily immobilizing the nerve fibers responsible for muscle activity. Limiting the constriction of these facial muscles helps smooth out lines and wrinkles for a more refreshed, youthful appearance.

How long does BOTOX treatment take?

The duration of your BOTOX treatment depends on the specific areas being addressed. Most BOTOX sessions take about 10 to 15 minutes.

Is BOTOX treatment painful?

BOTOX is administered through a small needle, and many patients report they do not even feel the injection. Others may experience minor, temporary discomfort at the injection site.

When will I see the results of BOTOX?

Most patients notice the desired results of BOTOX within three to 10 days following treatment.

How long do the results of BOTOX last?

For most patients, the effects of BOTOX treatment will last for three to six months before the affected muscles regain their normal function. Follow-up BOTOX treatments on a schedule recommended by Dr. Kleto can help you maintain lasting results.

Is BOTOX safe?

BOTOX was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for use in the cosmetic treatment of forehead lines. Although the BOTOX solution is purified, some patients are susceptible to side-effects. Dr. Kleto will discuss individual risk factors and potential complications with you during your consultation.

Will BOTOX affect my facial expressions?

BOTOX will not dramatically alter your overall facial appearance or your ability to make facial expressions. BOTOX affects only the muscles below the targeted areas to help diminish lines and wrinkles.

Am I a candidate for BOTOX?

Although BOTOX is safe and effective for many women and men, it is not suitable for everyone. Your dermal filler consultation with Dr. Kleto will determine if BOTOX is the best treatment option for your aesthetic goals.
