Breast Implant Options

Once you have decided to move forward with a breast augmentation, you will be faced with several more decisions relating to the exact type of breast implants you want and other surgical options. Your choices will directly affect your final cosmetic results, which is why we encourage patients to take their time during this process.

After performing an examination and discussing your cosmetic goals with you, Dr. Kleto can help you decide which options would best meet your needs. When selecting your breast implants, you will need to consider several different factors, including:

  • Silicone vs. saline – Silicone breast implants provide fuller cleavage and more natural results than saline breast implants, as the silicone gel is designed to look and feel more like natural breast tissue. However, saline breast implants allow for a smaller scar, which is important to some patients.
  • Breast implant size – The biggest option is not necessarily the best option. Consider the proportions of your body’s frame, how active you are, and how concerned you are with achieving a natural look versus an “obvious” look.
  • Breast implant shape – Contoured (“teardrop”) breast implants create a more sloped, natural breast shape when placed over your chest muscles, while round implants look more spherical.
  • Breast implant texture – The breast implant shell can either be smooth or textured. Smooth implants tend to have a thinner shell than textured implants, and may be less likely to ripple, while textured implants are designed to lower the risk of capsular contracture.

Dr. Kleto will discuss the pros and cons of each option in more detail with you during your breast augmentation consultation.
