The Ideal BOTOX® Candidate

In order to be a good candidate for BOTOX®, you should:

  • Be between 18 and 65 years old
  • Be in strong overall health
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Have dynamic wrinkles that can be successfully treated with BOTOX®

What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contracted muscles beneath your skin, which cause the skin to bunch together and form lines. These types of wrinkles typically appear in areas where your face animates during a facial expression – such as when you laugh, smile, or grimace. Common dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead creases
  • Upper lip lines
  • Neck bands

BOTOX® corrects dynamic wrinkles by signaling your facial muscles to loosen and relax, allowing the fine lines caused by contractions to disappear.

In contrast, static wrinkles are caused by a breakdown of collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin. These cannot be treated with BOTOX®, and must be addressed with a dermal filler.

Who is Not a Good BOTOX® Candidate?

When evaluating your medical history, our Knoxville BOTOX® team will determine if you have any medical conditions that might interfere with the safety and/or effectiveness of BOTOX®. For example, you may not be a good candidate if you:

  • Have a neurological disorder
  • Have a disease that affects your nerves and/or muscles
  • Are allergic to any BOTOX® ingredients
  • Are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
  • Have a skin infection in the treatment area

BOTOX® Cosmetic has a history of safety; it has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002, and serious complications are rare. As long as you do not have any of the problems listed above, you can recapture a more youthful, rejuvenated look through BOTOX®.
