If you are considering a breast augmentation, one of the most important decisions you will make is choosing the type of breast implants you want. The right breast implants for you will depend on a few different factors, including:
- Your aesthetic preferences
- The thickness of your breast skin
- The size you want
- Your age (patients must be 18+ for saline implants, or 22+ for silicone implants)
Saline breast implants are filled after placement using a sterile saltwater solution. Although saline implants do not look or feel as realistic as silicone implants, they can be placed using smaller incisions, which is a major advantage for some patients. Additionally, they can be filled and adjusted to a precise size, which can be beneficial if you are trying to correct asymmetrical breasts. As long as you have thicker breast skin, you should avoid the aesthetic problem of wrinkling or rippling – but if you have thinner skin, you may want to consider silicone instead.
Silicone breast implants come in a variety of pre-filled sizes, and are designed to imitate the look and feel of natural breast tissue. Silicone implants do not ripple or wrinkle, and tend to provide fuller cleavage. For these reasons and more, silicone implants have become the preferred choice for many patients. During your initial consultation, Dr. Kleto will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each option as they relate to your unique needs and goals.
