What Should I Expect During Rhinoplasty Recovery?

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is an effective cosmetic surgery treatment that can alter the size and shape of your nose to bring it into proper proportion with your face. Rhinoplasty recovery is a bit different than other cosmetic surgery procedures in that it can take up to 12 months to see the full results of your nose surgery.

Board-certified Knoxville, Tennessee, plastic surgeon Dr. Dean Kleto will help you set realistic expectations for your rhinoplasty and review your recovery guidelines with you in detail prior to your procedure.

Most patients require about a week off work and up to two weeks away from strenuous physical activities for initial recovery. Although your external splint and any stitches will be removed within a week following your nose surgery, you will experience some swelling and bruising.

Bruising, swelling and discomfort can be controlled with ice packs and medication recommended by Dr. Kleto. Most visible bruising will subside within two weeks following your rhinoplasty, and patients generally feel they look presentable enough to return to work and resume routine daily activities within two weeks after surgery.

The results of your rhinoplasty will become increasingly apparent as you recover, and most noticeable swelling will face around three weeks after surgery, although it can take up to a year for the permanent results to take effect.
