Following breast augmentation, promoting the health of your breasts is much the same as before the procedure. Some of the ways to promote breast health include:
- Wear a properly fitted, supportive bra to decrease the effect of gravity on your breasts.
- Promote healthy, firm, vibrant skin by eating well, staying hydrated, and regularly moisturizing your skin.
- Receive regular mammograms when recommended by your doctor.
- Ask your doctor about the proper way to perform a monthly breast self-exam.
When you receive a mammogram, you must inform your mammographer that you have breast implants. A mammography captures images of the inside of your breasts. In some cases, implants can obscure certain abnormalities and make these abnormalities difficult to detect; however, the mammographer can make adjustments to compensate for the presence of a breast implant. If you choose to perform breast self-exams, ask your doctor how to examine breasts with implants.
Caring for your breasts and overall health prevents breast sagginess and encourages skin elasticity, leading to a youthful, healthy breast appearance.
